Why Should You Invest in Yourself?

When we think about the word investing, we often associate it with a monetary contribution to the purchase of financial/real assets. We think about investing as a way to increase our net worth, lead a wealthier life, and receive more allowances; however investing can also mean putting time, effort, and resources towards your self-growth and your self-worth because there is nothing more important than YOU only.

I am a big proponent of self-investment and placing yourself first on your priority list. It sounds selfish, but IT IS REALLY NOT. When you feel good about yourself, you are able to add more value to others. For instance, when we are happy, we manifest laughter and joy around us whereas when we are sad, we infect others with sadness.

We live in a society where we are enslaved to our 9-5 hated jobs, sealed with people we don't love, compelled to behave as per cultural norms and family expectations, and consequently, we tend to forget our purpose in life and who we truly are.

I read this motivational book couple of years ago, called: Who Says You Can’t? You do by Daniel Chidiac that changed my whole perspective of life. As human beings, we are always scared of a change whether it is a relationship, a career path, or anything in life. We go on a constant circle searching for our passions; we are cemented in our failures and we are incapable of moving on from rejections, but self-discovery and self-growth only depend on you. Life will always have some bumpy roads, with family and friends insulting you, criticizing you, and demeaning you for not meeting their ideal expectations of a person, but in order to grow, one needs to build a positive mindset, take rejections as redirection, get comfortable with the uncomfortable, embrace change, and be open to new challenging. We are not born to fit a box. Life would be too boring if we had too many of the same people.

Therefore, take some time in the upcoming year to educate yourself through classes, and books, build a network, find a mentor whether it is a work mentor or a friendtor, have your own side hustle job, take care of your mental and physical health, start your own business, and turn your passions into profits. If you follow these, the grass will be the greenest where you stand.

Start little and implement this long-lasting change for a life of sustainable dividends. The best and priceless investment will always be YOU. Make Investing in Yourself your 2021 Personal Goal.

"Your worth consists in what you are and not what you have."
